France, the world's third largest container shipping giant, returns to the super-large container ship market, and plans to spend about RMB 20 billion to order up to 12 LNG dual-fuel ships. Chinese shipping companies with advantages in price and delivery cycle are expected to stand out in this round of fierce international bidding and undertake this heavyweight order.
According to trade winds, Dafei plans to order up to 12 container ships of 21,000 TEU to 24,000 TEU class, and has issued inquiries to many Asian shipyards, including China Shipbuilding Group's shipyards, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding and Hengli Heavy Industry, as well as the three Korean shipbuilding giants HD South Korea Shipbuilding Ocean, Hanwha Ocean and Samsung Heavy Industry. This will be the first time that Dafei has ordered a super-large container ship of more than 20,000 boxes in two years.
Sources said that the orders of Dafei include 6 confirmed ships and 4-6 alternative ships, and the new ship will continue to choose the LNG dual-fuel power scheme. However, Dafei may use a C-type fuel tank instead of the usual thin-film fuel tank, which will save about $15 million per ship.
Some industry insiders believe that the possibility of Dafei finally choosing to place an order in a Chinese shipyard is very high, mainly because the prices of Chinese shipyards are more competitive and the delivery time is earlier. It is reported that the current price of 21,000 TEU-class LNG dual-fuel ships in South Korea is about US$250 million (about RMB 1.8 billion), while the price of Chinese shipyards is generally below US$230 million (about RMB 1.656 billion).
